History
The
Early Childhood Learning Center was founded in 1978 by parents of
preschool children who needed specialized therapy to help their
children overcome some developmental delays. At the time, programs
were only available in Albany or Kingston. The parents, who did
not want their children to travel such a distance to receive therapy,
started their own program in Greene County.
The agency first began under the auspices of the Early Childhood
Education Center in Albany. In a year's time, it was mutually decided
the ECLC would be an independent program chartered by the NYS Board
of Regents. In 1982 an absolute charter was granted. In 1999 the
agency became the grantee for the Head Start Program in Greene County.
Since then the agency has grown considerably. Today ECLC serves
more than 200 children. Currently, ECLC meets the needs of Head
Start children and children with developmental delays from birth
to five years of age.
