Early Intervention

Q: My child is not talking yet and I think s/he should be. What can I do about it?
A: Ask your pediatrician or refer to the developmental milestones under the Knowledge Center section. This will give you an idea of what your child should be doing at different ages. If your child is not doing something at the appropriate age, you can request an evaluation.

Q: How do I get an evaluation for my child?
A: If your child is between infancy and three years in age, call the Early Intervention Official at 518-719-3617.

Q: Where do I go for an evaluation?
A: The evaluators will come to your house and play with your child. Usually a Service Coordinator and the Early Intervention Official will come too.

Q: What happens next?
A: If your child does not need services, the evaluators will give you some ideas of things you can do at home. If your child is eligible for services, the Service Coordinator will arrange for the appropriate services and develop an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) for your child. Services should begin very soon after that and are usually provided in your home so you can participate in the program.
