Speech, Occupational & Physical Therapies

Q: How do I know if my child needs services?
A: After your child is evaluated, the therapists will tell you whether your child will benefit from services. If not, they will give you some suggestions that you can work on at home.

Q: Do I get a report?
A: In about two weeks you will get a written report that will explain if your child needs services and exactly what services are recommended.

Q: What happens next?
A: If your child is between three and five years in age, there will be a meeting scheduled at your school district. You should attend, as the evaluation results will be discussed. A member of the evaluation team and several other representatives will be there to determine if your child qualifies for services based on the report.

Q: How do I get the services needed for my child?
A: It is usually the job of the CPSE Chairperson to find a provider. It can be a speech, occupational, or physical therapist, or your child can be placed in a center-based special education program with these services. All of these options are performed with your consent.

Q: How will I know if I like the program and where it is?
A: You can go and see the program before your child starts. You can take your child with you and spend some time in the classroom and talk to the staff.
